Grand Old Grizzly Press Review

EMG recording artist Grand Old Grizzly recently released their third studio album, titled “Pure Country Pyrite.” EMG’s own Derek Hames produced the album, with John Shelton recording and mixing.

  • Houston Press calls Gundowners “one of the strongest openings to a country album you’ll hear in a good while.”
  • Fox 7 Austin had the band by to promote the new album on their “Music In The Morning” segment
  • Elmore Magazine says Pure Country Pyrite is “full of rollicking guitar licks and pumping drums, interspersed with tender melodies, irony and wit.”
  • Saving Country Music premiered Gundowners in front of their social audience of nearly 100,000 followers
  • Twangville premiered “Papa Was a Radio,” saying it combined a “southern rock feel with a nice, jangly guitar sound that mixes to be a sort of Texas surf music.”
  • The album made the Top Ten on The Alternate Root
  • Turnstyled, Junkpiled – Roots Music Magazine exclaims “Grand Old Grizzly strikes gold with their third release, Pure Country Pyrite,” noting that the album “captures the energy and excitement of Americana’s early days.”
